1st August 2010
In April 2010, I along with over 180,000 people attended the biggest trade show in our industry. Light & Build Frankfurt 2010.
In this time of extreme change within the lighting industry due to the LED revolution we all new LED would be the strong focus but how strong was the question, and MASSIVELY Strong is the answer. I was extremely impressed with the new LED innovations I saw particularly within commercial exterior products. It was great to see product in the category with slick design quality coupled with high performance and eco credentials. Stay tuned for an introduction to Lighting Options Australia's new commercial exterior products.
The highlight for me on this trip however was outside the main fair. The luminale light festival featured Australian lighting designer and friend Flynn Talbot. Flynn had his 'Horizon' installation included in the festival but he was also accepted as the overall winner of an internationl competetion with 175 entries to light the St Peter's Church. Flynns Portal installation came to reality when it was exhibited on April 11-18, 2010. Its great to see a West Australian designer having such an impact in the lighting world. Congratulations Flynn. Flynn is now based in Berlin working on projects globally and his progress and news can be tracked at http://www.nothingintosomething.com
Our next major trade show that we will attend is Euroluce in Milan, April 2011 where we hope to source some new, exciting products to introduce onto the Australian market.
